What is Kids Krav Maga? A Comprehensive Self-Defense Program

The Kids program is a unique training program specifically designed using both Karate, Grappling and Krav Maga styles and theories. Training includes systematic exercises and maneuvers to improve a child's mental and physical abilities. With Karate, students will learn discipline, focus and strength, while Krav Maga complements the training with a practical and realistic dimension.

The goal of this program is children's self-development through Martial Arts. The training program will teach basic defensive skills, and is not intended for or taught under a competitive environment. The Kids program has several age groups so that students can feel comfortable learning with other students their own age.

Age Group

The KravZone differences in Kids' Curriculum are defined by kids' Age. At KravZone, we divide our groups according to age groups (5-6, 7-8, 9-12, and Teens). We apply to every age group the appropriate teaching methods as defined by sports education best practices standards. Each age group is taught different levels of drills according to their age.

Teamwork

There are many interactions between our students. Most of the drills in class are for couples or groups and fewer individuals. It gives the kids better social abilities, it brings the great values gained by teamwork, friendship, and sportsmanship. And again, more interesting.

Efficient, professional, and very friendly instructors, all the equipment you need, and great students! On one hand I don't want to tell anyone about this gem because the parking lot will get crowded. On the other, I can't not recommend this dojo. First class is free, so come and see for yourself 🙂

This gym is perfect for anyone wanting to learn martial arts for what ever reason. Although they do not offer boxing, kickboxing or mma tournaments, they are ready and willing to help you find one. Or, if you choose to learn Krav for self defense purposes, the instructors are amazing about that as well. Overall one of the best places to learn martial arts and very highly recommend, with amazing instructors and facilities.

Amazing place. Love everybody here. Very useful class for REAL defense. I did taekwondo before and Krav is more for street fight scenario.

I have been coming here for four and a half years. I don't think I knew what real self defense was before I came here. Shlomi and Tomer, the two main instructors, both served in the IDF. This isn't the place where you learn kata or other techniques that only work in karate movies. Here, you're going to learn how to REALLY survive on the street. When I first came here, I had already spent 4 years in a Tae Kwon Do studio, but I eventually realized it was black belt mill. I can say with confidence that this is not a black belt mill. I failed one of my belt tests, which may seem like a negative thing, but it shows that they aren't here to take your money and give you a belt. This is a place where you earn your belts. There are also other classes you can take advantage of here, like kickboxing, BJJ, MMA, and fitness classes.

I have been training at KravZone in Krav Maga and Jiu Jitsu for over a year. There are plenty of class options for both beginning and experienced students. Shlomi, Tomer, and the other trainers are professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. Additionally the student community is helpful and inviting. I highly recommend KravZone if you're looking to try martial arts for the first time or looking for a new place to train.

frequently asked questions About Our Kids Martial Arts Program

Everything parents want to know about KravZone's kids program in Sunnyvale

What age groups do you teach in your kids martial arts program? Expand

We divide our kids martial arts classes into three age-appropriate groups: Ages 5-6 (introductory level with games and basic techniques), Ages 7-8 (structured training with discipline focus), and Ages 9-12 (advanced techniques with practical self-defense applications). Each group receives instruction specifically designed for their developmental stage and physical abilities.

Does my child need prior martial arts experience to join? Expand

No prior experience is required! Our kids program is specifically designed to accommodate complete beginners. We focus on building foundational skills in a non-competitive, supportive environment. Every child progresses at their own pace, and our experienced instructors ensure each student receives appropriate guidance based on their skill level.

What should my child wear to their first class? Expand

For the first trial class, children should wear comfortable athletic clothing (t-shirt and athletic pants or shorts) and bring water. We train barefoot, so no shoes are needed on the mat. Once enrolled, students will receive information about purchasing a KravZone uniform, but this is not required for the trial class.

How often should my child attend classes? Expand

We offer flexible membership options: once per week ($110/month), twice per week ($160/month), or unlimited ($205/month). For optimal skill development and confidence building, we recommend at least twice per week. However, we understand scheduling constraints, so you can choose the option that works best for your family and change classes according to your weekly schedule.

Is your kids program safe for beginners? Expand

Absolutely! Safety is our top priority. All drills and techniques are age-appropriate, and students are trained to complete challenges successfully and safely. Our instructors have extensive experience working with children, maintain appropriate class sizes, and use proper safety equipment. We focus on controlled, supervised practice in a non-competitive environment designed to build confidence without risk.

What's the instructor-to-student ratio in kids classes? Expand

We maintain small class sizes to ensure each child receives individual attention and proper instruction. Our typical ratio is one instructor for every 10-12 students, though this varies by age group. Our youngest groups (ages 5-6) have even smaller ratios to ensure safety and effective learning.

Do you have belt testing and extra fees? Expand

We have a ranking system to track progress, but unlike most martial arts schools, we do NOT charge extra fees or hidden premium fees for belts and degrees. Students receive their degrees when they demonstrate mastery of required skills, not when payment is due. There are no surprise costs—just your monthly membership and the one-time $50 enrollment fee.

Can parents watch the classes? Expand

Yes! Parents are welcome to observe classes from our viewing area. We encourage parents to watch, especially during the first few weeks, to see their child's progress and understand our teaching methodology. We also offer a special "Krav & Cub" parent-child program where parents and children train together.

What makes KravZone different from other kids martial arts schools? Expand

KravZone combines three martial arts styles (Karate, Grappling, and Krav Maga) rather than focusing on just one. We emphasize practical self-defense in a non-competitive environment, focus on age-appropriate teaching methods backed by sports education standards, teach techniques that actually work (not ceremonial forms), promote teamwork through partner and group drills, and have no hidden fees for belt testing. Our instructors include former elite forces trainers with decades of real-world experience.

Where are you located and what areas do you serve? Expand
